Today at 4:00, Conservation Attorney Melodie Meyer will give a presentation titled Towards True Restoration: Changing the Logging Mandate at Jackson Demonstration State Forest: JDSF as a demonstration forest, a brief history of demonstration forests, what the current logging mandate is, and why and how it needs to change.

Melodie Meyer is a citizen of the Laguna Pueblo and is from Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Melodie participated in radical community organizing throughout college at the University of New Mexico, mainly centered on indigenous environmental justice and environmental defense. During this time she interned with the Laguna Pueblo Natural Resources Department and engaged in environmental monitoring and reporting. Melodie went on to graduate from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 2020 where she committed herself to environmental law, Federal Indian law, and tribal law and worked with Indian Law firms and environmental nonprofit organizations. After graduating, she moved to Humboldt County to work for the Yurok Tribe, first as a Justice Catalyst/Public Rights Project Legal Fellow and then as Associate General Counsel. At the Yurok Tribe, Melodie worked on a number of issues including enforcement of Yurok Tribal environmental laws, Klamath River restoration, child support litigation in Tribal Court, Tribal water rights, and Yurok Tribal Cultural Resource protection. Currently Melodie is the Conservation Attorney at the Environmental Protection Information Center, focusing on forest and wildlife conservation. She is passionate about implementing a holistic vision of conservation that uplifts climate justice, tribal sovereignty, and social justice.
