So... Is it spring or summer?
|
|
The recent heat wave seems to be throwing us all off, as if there wasn't already enough on our plates. But I hear a recurring message: Music is one of the best sources of healing. It's universal, and it always feels good.
Last month, Amelia and I played our Love Songs for the Soul series for Valentine's Day. The rooms full of people were so heartwarming that I felt like we really found joy - together - in all the craziness. We're already excited about ideas for next year!
Looking forward, this is the season of Nowruz. Though I know that many celebrations have been cancelled because of the situation, still it is a time to come together and support each other in community.
I hope that you are doing alright this season.
Here are the offerings I have in the coming weeks:

This poem was very popular at our Valentine's show. A number of people have asked me to share it, so
here
it is!

What originally began as a Nowruz show that has been one year in the planning, has turned into a collection of songs and melodies from Central Asia with some of my favorite collaborators. Sirvan Manhoobi on oud, Amir Etamadzadeh on percussion, and Natalie Nayun
will introduce us to dances from Iran and Afghanistan. This is all about the power of music.

Bringing Music to Saul's Deli
|
|
So when you play at the same restaurant many times, does that make you a regular? Or is the restaurant your regular?
Either way, we're at it again! I'll be playing at Saul's on two different dates, with two different repertoires:
April 6, 5-8pm, with Achi Ben Shalom
April 8, 5-8pm, with Dan Cantrell
Saul's Deli, Berkeley

Our mix of klezmer and sort-of-klezmer has made it up and down the state over these past months. Now we're coming to Marin County! Get ready to dance in your seats, and hear some stories while we're at it.

We will be holding a Holocaust memorial event at the San Francisco Jewish Community Center. These programs are very rich, and run through the afternoon. I will be at the evening service at 6pm, and the reception afterwards.

For Israeli Independence Day, I will be performing with reggae artist Mikey Pauker at Kol Shofar. Good vibes :)
