Hello, I understand that you can edit the same document in split view,
but can put different documents in multiple panes? (not unlike notepad+
+ and komodo edit.) Just wondering. This is the only thing holding me
back from purchasing...

Don't confuse this with View -> Open in New Window ...

I would second this request: quite often I'm working on related files
and would like to see them in separate panes of the same window
[admittedly the larger the screen you have the more likely you are to
want this...]. Opening a related file in a separate window isn't
really a great solution - I'd like to be able to see the content of
both files *at the same time*.

While I wouldn't mind the ability to show multiple files in panes, I'm
not sure why opening a related file in a separate window isn't at least
a workable solution. You can see the content of both files at the same
time as long as the windows aren't on top of one another, after all, right?

What I usually use for this is a cheap utility called SizeUp which lets
me resize windows of any app quickly with keystrokes--it's very easy to
push a window onto any half or quarter of a screen. There's a similar
program called "Moom" from Many Tricks Software, which is only $5 on the
App Store. It's not quite the same thing, I know, but it ends up having
pretty much the same effect in practice.

(I'd recommend one of those programs for people who miss better window
arranging. I know it may not seem like a good replacement for BBEdit
doing that natively, but it is, and of course it works with all apps,
not just BBEdit. The BBEdit Window Arrange functionality was always
useless to me anyway, since it didn't work with project windows!)

You can, but you have to go through the hassle of resizing a project
window, resizing a document window, and then dragging the document
window to the correct. This is something where 'arrange windows' might
be useful but as you say it's not great. Perhaps the solution is to
attach a script to this menu item, as per another thread... :)

Hmm. From a UI perspective it seems like this would take a fair amount of work, however I wonder if perhaps *locking* two windows together might not take much effort.

You'd still have to convince the devs that this is worth their time.

In any case it'd be easy to adapt my 2-up script to size and position two windows neatly together as you like it. It would also not be too difficult to build some smarts into the script, so that it remembered the two window names or the two documents associated with them. Perhaps one script to save the front two windows' parameters into the main script, and the main script to do the opening (if necessary) and positioning.

Many things are possible.
