Is it possible to configure BBEdit to always display dot files and folders when browsing to open a file? I know of the Shift+Cmd+. shortcut, but that still won't allow me to open dot files. Thank you.

In the lower left corner of the Disk Browser window, there is a file filter control (the magnifying glass stylized icon). If you select "Everything", all the dot hidden items will be included in the file and folder sidebar list. That selection will be remembered as a preference that is used for all future new Disk Browser windows until such time as you change that file filter setting. (Ref. "Disk Browser Controls" "Filter Menu" on page 238 of the BBEdit User Manual (15.5.3))

I forgot to add for the Open... dialog, click the "Show Options" button to reveal options including a "Show hidden items" option. When you enable that option, all dot hidden files and folders will be included in the listings, and you'll be able to select and open them. That option setting will also be remembered as a preference for future Open... dialog uses. (Ref. "Using the Open Command" "Show Hidden Items" on page 58 of the BBEdit User Manual (15.5.3))
