BBEdit 10 turn off spell check, open separate windows?

I just upgraded to 10 from 8 and I'm having a hard time accomplishing
two changes in its behavior:

1) As I type, I get a popup green box with suggested spellings in it.
I've unchecked the "Spell check" in preferences, but this persists.
How do I stop it?

2) How do I get this to open multiple documents in separate windows?

It's not spelling, it's completions. In the Editing preferences pane, there are two controls that may interest you:

Show text completions:
After a delay in typing
Only manually

and

Include dictionary words in completion list

In the Application preference pane:

Open documents into the front window when possible
