[ANN] BBEdit 11.6 (3927) pre-release

Good afternoon folks,

We're working on an update to BBEdit 11 which will add some new
features and address a few recently reported issues.

Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions. If
this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the public
release versions is your best course of action. Nobody will be
offended if you choose to do so; you're under no obligation to
install and use anything but a public release. :-)

Following is a summary of changes since the most recent
pre-release (whose own notes are here: <https://groups.google.com/d/msg/bbedit/YaLYUV691aE/a5XtkSSXAQAJ>).

The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and
fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So
if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that
was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed
correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before
using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.

One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <sup...@barebones.com> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.

reloads would trigger when they shouldn't have.

* [NFR] [322710] If you insist on symlinking individual items into
folders that back menus (Scripts, Text Filters, Clippings, etc),
that will work again. (It was never documented to, didn't work
before, isn't supported, and may some day stop working,
permanently.)

* [NFR] Made a change so that the popup indicator arrows for
navigation and status bar items (where applicable) are
closer to
the item's text (or icon).

* [NFR] [322806] Fixed regression in which printing was
unaware of
the new internal line break representation.

* [322708] Fixed bug in which language-specific preference
overrides were not applied to Git and Perforce commit windows.

* [322787] Fixed cases in which files chosen from the Includes
navigation bar menu weren't found and opened as they should have
been.

* Made a change so that the check for "is a file controlled by
Perforce" will time out when necessary, rather than stall the
application forever.

* [322830] When `tcsh` is the user's shell, we now run it as a
login shell when collecting environment data for Perforce
operations and in other situations. (This may fix hangs with
Perforce operations when `tcsh` is in use.)

* [322691] Added Git commands to the contextual menu in results
lists.

* Fixed a hang which could occasionally and randomly occur while
waiting for a response from certain forked Unix processes.

* [322832] Fixed bug in which certain characters in search and
replace strings would cause unexpected drawing effects in the
Find window's search history menu; these characters are now
hex-escaped.

* Non-printable characters in the "Latin-1 Supplement" range
(0x80-0x9F) are now escaped in search strings.

Thank you very much for fixing this one:

I regularly print BBEdit documents as PDF documents by choosing File/Print/Save as PDF, and was taken back when in build 3925 I started getting one line of continuous text in the resulting PDF. The same thing was happening when I dropped a BBEdit document on Easy PDF.

I am actually glad that it was an easily-fixable regression in BBEdit, and not some system-wide problem with the OS itself.

So, we are back in operation.
