I found this in the manual.

"To toggle the behavior of the keypad between moving the cursor and entering numbers,
hold down the Option key and press the Clear key in the upper-left corner of the keypad.
(This key is also labeled Num Lock on some keyboards.)"

You can also set it as an expert preference. Use this in terminal to turn it off. Or change to 1 to turn it on.

defaults write com.barebones.bbedit UseNumericKeypadForCursorMovement 0

Since three days ago…

So when I press the number 4 key on the extended keyboard the insertion point will move one letter to the left,
and if I press the number 7 key the insertion point will move all the way to the beginnig of the line.
Similarly, with the other keys.

This does not happen in TextEdit, Pages or an other text app which I have tested, only in BBEdit.

But I can't find any setting which would show some kind of 'pointer control' or 'mouse keys' which exists in macOS settings.

Any assistance will be much appreciated,

Thank you, I could switch off this awkward behaviour with OPT - Clear key.

Good!

However, this terminal command didn't do much, best would be *to switch it off permanently.*

But now I can use the keypad again, so that's fine!
