Very long time to load large files

I don't recall large files being an issue in BBEdit, but today it's taking several minutes of the spinning pinwheel for BBEdit to open a 4.5MB file.

I'm on a macbook pro using os x 10.11.5. It was doing this earlier before i upgraded to 11.6 from previous, and it also does the same thing in 11.6.

For comparison, I loaded the same file in both Atom & SublimeText (latest versions) and in both it loads in 2 seconds, whereas in BBEdit it took 2 minutes.

Since BBEdit shouldn't ordinarily have any trouble opening a
4.5MB file, this sounds like an issue for support.

I have seen very slow response times for BBEdit when large files are a single line (i.e, no CR or LF in the file)

I have seen an instant slowdown in most operations when a large file has folded folds. Instead of taking seconds to do a search/replace, it takes minutes.

I've seen this very issue.. I opened a 50MB file, and it's fine until I try and fold stuff.. which is what I wanted to do!!! Ack.

Any chance of a solution/workaround anytime soon?

If your file contains 50MB of text on a single line, that will
naturally affect BBEdit's performance, though even in this case
if you enable soft wrapping, you should be able to work with the
file's contents once the initial wrap operation has finished.

Otherwise, I recommend you contact support so we can investigate
what's going on.
