I just don't get a simple search item

I have a bunch of file that were formatted incorrectly 

So I have terms like this 

</SerCPU>

</ShoeType>

I want to find them and eliminate them

I just don't get the wild cards to work 

If I search </*>  or - should this not return both of the above ?

I really don't get this -

Hi 

Please try this:

</.+?>

ensure "grep" is switched on. This searches for the shortest match for:

</ any number of characters >

. means any char

+ means one or more

? means shortest match, else it might find a >< within the match

Glad it worked Dennis. As long as the punishment resulting from my good deed is carried out by you, I am ok with it. ;-)

Seriously, feel free to come back on list or even directly for any more help. You might find regex101 useful. Great interactive sandbox. (I know BBEdit has great sandbox too but I have not used it). 

You can save pages and go back. e.g. see this page with your example
