Good { morning, afternoon, evening },

The 10.5 public beta's off to a hot start -- thanks to everyone
who's taken the time to try it out and let us know how it's
working, for better or for worse. :-)

A new build is available, with an assortment of fixes for things
that turned up in the previous beta release. (For more
information about the previous release, please see the post at
<https://groups.google.com/d/msg/bbedit/FKooO9-0o1k/zmFYlTRp6m0J>.)
Most of these correspond to fixes and changes to work in
progress; but as always there are also fixes for bugs in what's
currently in general release.

Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions. If
this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the public
release versions is your best course of action. Nobody will be
offended if you choose to do so; you're under no obligation to
install and use anything but a public release. :-)

Following is a summary of the changes in the software since the
previous build. The change notes are organized into additions,
changes, and fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with
case numbers. So if you recognize a number corresponding to a
support case that was opened for you, you can now verify that
it's been fixed correctly. Please take the time to review the
changes before using the new build -- there are a lot of them,
and it'll be worth your time.

One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <sup...@barebones.com> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.

============================================================================

version 10.5 (3217) (10/02/2012)

*** The system requirements for BBEdit have changed with version 10.
Mac OS X 10.6 is now required (10.6.8 or later recommended).

*** BBEdit 10.5 contains extensive internal rework; the primary goal
is to achieve proper appearance on Macs with the high-resolution
"Retina" displays, but the opportunity was also taken to remove
unnecessary code, and to effect various cosmetic and usability
improvements. There will be some drawing glitches and
fit-and-finish issues; please report anything that you run into
that falls into that category (as well as any other
functional bugs
that you may encounter in new or changed features).

Additions
---------

o (none in this build)

Changes
-------

* When entering full screen mode, the application figures out
whether the window width should be increased to take up the full
screen width, or not, based on the width of the window relative
to the width of the screen that it's on. The threshold at which
the window is made to take up the entire screen width can
be set
thus:

`defaults write com.barebones.bbedit
FullScreenWidthThreshold -float 0.65`

The threshold is a percentage, so (in the example above),
if the
window is 65% or more of the width of the screen that it's
on, it
will take up the full width of the screen when entering
full screen
mode.

Note that when setting the threshold, you _must_ set it as
a decimal
number, using `-float <some number between 0 and 1>`.

Fixes
-----

* [251582] When importing the clipboard from another application,
we now rotate the clipboard ring (in a fashion similar to what
happens when you Copy; so no rotation occurs if the current slot
is empty). This way, "Paste Previous" can be used with text
copied from other applications.

* [228920] When enumerating a project for Open File by Name,
duplicate entries are eliminated in order to avoid
duplication in
the results.

* [NFR] [251246] Restored the ability to paste Mac Roman text
copied from stone-age applications.

- [NFR] [251429] Fixed a bug which would kneecap bbedit when
closing one of the windows of a diff process while the Windows
floater was open.

* [NFR] [251282] Fixed regression in which the sense of 'Show
files starting with "."' was interpreted wrongly when it was
turned *off* and connecting to an FTP server.

* [NFR] [251474] "Move Line Up", "Move Line Down", and "Delete
Line" are
now enabled (and work) when multiple complete lines are selected.

* [NFR] [251503] Fixed bug in which the selection range was left
in a bad place after doing a "Delete Line" with a non-empty
selection range.

* [NFR] [251469] Eliminated deadlock which could occur when trying
to open a file while Dreamweaver was running on systems that
supported file versioning (10.7 and later).

* [NFR] [251008] Fixed bug in which, under certain conditions,
text in the Find and Multi-File Search windows would end up
horizontally scrolled out of whack.

* [NFR] [251522, 251547] Fixed bug in which modifiers in
mouse-tracking events weren't properly handled; the most visible
symptom of this was that Option-clicking on a fold indicator
didn't collapse (or expand) all of the inner folds.

* [NFR] [251435] Fixed crash which would occur sometimes when
checking links.

- [NFR] [251436, 251470, 251523] Fixed a crash which would occur
when choosing a saved color scheme the 2nd time you had opened
the preferences window.

* [NFR] [251582] Fixed regression in which "Paste Previous" was
inappropriately enabled, and would do the wrong thing when
invoked (when the previous clipboard was in fact empty).

- [NFR] [251507] Ensure that the Functions floater's selection is
restored when BBEdit is pulled to the foreground

* [NFR] [251430] Fixed cosmetic lag when highlighting toolbar
items when clicking on them.

- [NFR] [251552] Fixed a problem which caused the Clippings and
Entities floaters to not save their state at quit.

* [NFR] [251438, 251552] Fixed bug in which the markup tools
floating window positions were not correctly restored when
opening them (either after manually closing them or when starting
up the application).

* [NFR] [251598] Set the proper print dialog options so that the
copies and page-range settings are available when "Show Details"
is in effect.

* [NFR] [251393] Fixed bug in which using the "Go -> Named Symbol"
command, or the Site Options sheet (in a project window) would
result in strange activation effects for that window thereafter.
