Cascade Windows changes their width

Whenever I use Window > Cascade Windows, BBEdit shrinks my windows to some default width, but I can't figure out how to set that default. It doesn't seem to use the "default Text Window" or "default Project Window" settings when cascading and I can't find any preference that would let me set a default width when cascading windows. Is there one?

Believe it or not, I have done that search with several different wordings. I haven't found any answer to my question. I see answers for how to set default window sizes for new windows, but haven't found anything that talks about window sizes when using the cascade windows command. Perhaps you could point me to the answer you found, please?

Testing in a new version it seems like Cascade Windows does respect the size set with Save Default Window but does not respect the location for the first window. 

Command-N (without any windows open) will open a new window at the set size and location and cascade from there on subsequent new windows. Cascade Windows will instead adjust them all to the size set by Save Default Window but always starts the first window at the upper left of the screen rather than the set position. 

To my reading, the manual implies that the result of creating four new windows and then cascading them should be identical.

"The Cascade Windows command cascades all open editing windows in the default fashion:

each successive window will be moved incrementally down and to the right (as described

above)."

I realize on another reading that you were worried about the size rather than position so the behavior I see seems to be what you want. Why it is working differently on your machine might be best taken up with support.

Thanks for clarifying! That AI summary seems to be confusing the Cascade Windows operation with the cascading effect when opening new windows. When I'm cascading existing open windows, it just resizes them all to some fixed width that isn't (as far as I can tell) tied to any of my default window sizes.

Maybe the difference is that I have a mixture of open document and project windows. I can resize them to my preferred width, Save Default (Text|Project) Window for each, then Cascade Windows will shrink them all again to the same size. In fact, if I open a couple of new text windows, they opens at my saved size (and cascade as expected), then get resized when I run Cascade Windows.
