why does 'tab' select this piece of code instead of inserting a 'tab'

I've had this happen before but not often enough that I can remember
whatever dumb thing I did that caused it.

All of a sudden when I press 'tab' I don't get a tab, but instead
BBEdit decides to find and highlight a particular piece of code.

Pressing 'tab' again has no effect.

This only happens for this document, but closing the file or even
quitting BBEdit has no effect.

I did try googling, but "bbedit tab find" are not particularly useful
search keywords

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Tj

That's because the highlighted section looks like (i.e. has the
same form as) a BBEdit _jump placeholder_ (page 246):

These strings have the form "<#...#>" where the content "..."
between the two # signs is either alphanumeric text, or empty.

and you can control whether Tab should navigate to such
placeholders via the leading option in the Keyboard prefs pane.

Never heard of that before.

(I wonder what percentage of BBEdit's features I even understand?)

Aha! That is now un-checked. Thanks
