There's Find Selected Text in the Search menu. If needed you can
assign a keystroke to that menu item.

command-E, then command-G

Command-E is "Use Selection for Find"

Works in Mail, Xcode, Textedit, and lots of other places, too.

My solution is to highlight the text then hit CMD-E then CMD-G
