Hi
Today I used the "bbedit" command to open a file. It was large but not
huge.
Then I proceeded to update the file (it was the output of a diff
statement.)
At that point BBEdit hung. Now I can no longer startup BBEdit (even
after a reboot) without hanging taking 100% CPU and never showing the
UI. I have since renamed the file in question thinking it might be
trying to reopen the bad file on the next launch. Nothing is working.
It's just stuck at 100% CPU no matter how often I launch it.
Please help.
Thanks
Andy

Hey Andy,

Phil is right. Under these circumstances you should always make a report to the support address.

Bare Bones Software <sup...@barebones.com>

In the meantime I would try deleting and reinstalling the application (BBEdit.app).

Every once and a while a crash can damage an application, and installing a fresh copy will solve the problem.

If that doesn't work you can move your preferences to the desktop and see if it will launch.

There are files in both of these places:

~/Library/Application Support/BBEdit/
~/Library/Preferences/

I sent the same message to support now. Since I already solved my problem by deleting the empty recovery folder it's ok.
Thanks for the help,
Andy

After trying multiple times to no avail I trashed the "Auto Recovery" folder and even though it only had a Data folder in it but otherwise contained no files at all it back to life.

Probably not a great idea to have trashed that even though it's solved
your problem temporarily. It's there for a reason.

Hopefully Barebones will get back to you soon & they'll tell you what's
involved next.

Cheers,
