ftp error

Hi there,

I'm trying to open (or save) files on my ftp server from BBEdit 8.7.2
(Mac OS 10.4.11).

I have correct password etc and have no trouble connecting to the
remote via the Finder or Cyberduck ftp program.

However, when I try from BBEdit i get this error:

The network connection is temporarily unavailable, please try again
later (MacOS Error code: -3220)
---------

Any ideas/suggestions?

I checked with 10.4.11 and 8.7.2 and it all worked fine, both loading
and saving a file from a remote server. Just a thought, did you
select FTP/SFTP correctly?

Way back (9/24/06) I had a similar problem with 10.3 and reported in
on the list. I talked with Rich, who suggested I might be picking up
a bad password from my keychain, and tried a few things, but never
resolved this. But it went away when I went to 10.4

produces:
This operation couldn't be completed, because an error occurred
An operation was attempted on the server without an existing
connection (application error code 22806)

The connection works OK with Fetch, Transmit and Interarchy

Checking SFTP I get a different error:

I wonder if your problem is similar to mine? From BBEdit 8.7.2 (Mac OS
X 10.4.11), I get an error:

>An unexpected protocol response was received from the FTP server (application error code: 22707)

I figured out my problem. For this one site I need to switch Passive
FTP off to connect. I didn't notice that the next time I connected
that Passive FTP was now on, and I got the error!

It looks as if the Passive FTP setting is a application-wide global
setting. You can't have it switched on for some sites and off for
others (like the FTP/SFTP setting).

I hope this might help you out. Sorry if I've hijacked your thread :-)

Ok I got it, thanks all. Just a minor parting of the ways between
GoDaddy's instructions and reality. ;-)

And man, what a handy feature. I've been living in the stone ages.
Have to remember what's live now though. Arrrrg! Freedom! Horrible
freedom!
