Syntax checker- greyed out?

A page is open in BBEdit, but how to apply the Syntax checker, it is greyed out?

Are you looking in the #! (shebang) menu?

Look in Markup > Check > Document Syntax

The commands in the Shebang menu allow you to run Unix scripts
within BBEdit or perform other related actions.

For more detail :-) I suggest you take a look at the "Shebang
Menu" section (starting on page 352) in Chapter 14 of the
included PDF manual, which you can access any time via Help ->
User Manual.
