I just upgraded my macbook to High Sierra.

Since then, every time I save a file I am editing, I am getting the message "This file appears to have been modified." and "The file at ... may have been changed on disk by another application. If so, saving this document may cause data loss. Are you sure you wish to proceed?" and I have to click "save anyway". This is an annoyance.

Has anyone seen this ?

Thanks

I get this a lot also, yes it's very annoying!  (although, in my case it might have started when I attached an external hard drive, but I didn't get that for previous hard drives, but then I wasn't accessing text files on them either, on the other other hand now I seem to get it for lots of text files on the hard drive as well -- but, I also did the OSX update somewhere in there so maybe that's it).

Cheers, Nick

The version of BBEdit you're (both) using is out of date, and is
not supported on macOS 10.13. The specific issue is due to a
behavior in the OS that we worked around for 11.6.8 and later.
(12.0 is the oldest version of BBEdit that is supported on macOS
10.13, though.)

Complete compatibility information is (always) available here: <https://www.barebones.com/support/new-os.html>.

And of course you can always write in to Tech Support if
something's not working correctly. :-)

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they
sedate me.

I am pretty sure it is the upgrade to High Sierra. I did that yesterday evening and I started seeing the “file modified” message right after that.

It may have to do with the new file system introduced on SSDs with High Sierra ...
