Hello fellow CSA'ers,

I hope everyone is well and enjoying our fast-approaching autumn.
Commemorate this festive harvest season by coming to an event that I'm
organizing for our CSA!

A couple of months ago, I attended the New York premier of Shelley
Rodgers' "What's Organic About Organic?", and thought it was an
incredibly informative and unique take on the subject of food
production and our role as consumers in the agricultural system.
Shelley, the director, is a force--she's brilliant, fearless, and
incredibly knowledgeable about her film's subject. The film is only an
hour, but more than makes the case for us to really know the politics
at play in food production, the organic label, and how we can be more
pro-active as "food citizens" and ultimately bring justice to our food
system.

On Tuesday, October 19th at 7:30pm at Congregation Mt. Sinai in
Brooklyn Heights (250 Cadman Plaza West), the Brooklyn Bridge CSA and
Pursue will be screening "What's Organic About Organic?". Shelley will
be at the event to introduce her film, and will lead a wonderful post-
film program about the impact organic food production has on food
justice, and how we can take a more active role as consumers to make
our food system more just.

The event is open to the public, so please invite your family,
friends, and networks to what promises to be an engaging and
empowering event. We will provide some yummy snacks and drinks, and
feel free to bring some pot luck snacks of your own (vegetarian only,
please). We will also be collecting non-perishable (preferably
organic) food items for Brooklyn Bridge CSA's emergency food provider,
Hanson Place Seventh-day Adventist Church.

If you intend to come, please RSVP here: http://whatsorganic.eventbrite.com/

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much, and hope to see you there!

Hi Joelle

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie tomorrow!  I work for Hazon, an organization who helps to set up CSAs all across the country (including this one!).  We're planning a Food Conference in December, and I'd really love a chance to let everyone know about it tomorrow night.  Might there be a moment -- either before the film or at the end of the event, where I could talk for a few minutes about the event?

I've copied info about the Conference below (you should come, too!) --  more info is here: www.hazon.org/foodconference

Thanks for helping to pull this event together -- looking forward!

All the best,
Anna

The Hazon Food Conference - East Coast

December 9-12, 2010

Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, Falls Village CT

The Hazon Food Conference is the only place where farmers and rabbis, nutritionists and chefs, vegans and omnivores come together to explore the dynamic interplay of food, Jewish traditions, and contemporary life. Don't miss four days of lectures, discussions, do-it-yourself food workshops, joyful Shabbat celebrations, and delicious, consciously-prepared food.

After years of holding food conferences on the West Coast, Hazon is thrilled to bring a food-focused event back to the East Coast.  We invite you to join us for a relaxing and joyful Shabbat at the beautiful and rustic Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, in the Connecticut Berkshires.

The four-day conference will celebrate New Jewish Food Movement.

  • Meet vegetable farmers and local kosher cheese and meat producers
  • Explore the intersection of food policy, food justice and Jewish tradition
  • Develop new skills in cooking, food preservation and CSA leadership
  • Enjoy a wonderful relaxing Shabbat with a great group of people of all ages!

For more info or to register: www.hazon.org/foodconference or contact Anna Hanau at an...@hazon.org
