I had a longish chat with Amarnath from Team SFS as he had posted up a comment on Facebook sometime back that totally pissed me off.

Since he works with so many kids in sport - has has good insight into unique problems that we would face with Under18 that we would otherwise not think about. He also had good recommendations that I told him should be emailed to us.

For example - the girls were disheartened cause they were not put on the podium while the boys were. Im not sure what exactly happened on race day as I was not at the race.

Apparently these kids are being sponsored education and some of the sponsors are suspicious about where the prize money has gone!

Basically Under18 is a whole new beast that we need to handle carefully and not bucket with the rest. Needs careful thinking.

Have requested Amarnath to assist us instead of treating us like yet another entity that needs their arm twisted to get your shit done.

Any constructive suggestions on what all we could/should change for Under18?

Request the sponsorer to hand out the prizes to the winners personally on race day, so that winners won't have to justify what happened nor wait. Will invite leapstart to the next race, ie. the criterium.

Second option,
If possible,
Remove prize money and hand out equivalent amount of scholarships or more.

Yeah even I spoke to him, he had a lot of constructive feedback.

 

He wanted the prize money ASAP so that the kid to pay for her education. That's something that touched me, we need to make sure that we hand over the prizes to these kids within a week of the race.

 

He's offered to help us at our races like DOD and others, maybe look at roping in them to help with registrations, timing, marshaling etc.
