Prof. Parvez Ahmed, after almost three decades of inhabiting foreign shores, in the year decided it was time to head back. He opted to settle in his native land after having amassed recognition and respect for his work in the field of information technology and computer science throughout the world. He was heading the Computer Science Department at Sharda University, Greater Noida since July, 2010.
He used to always say "Home is where the heart is”. As such his coming back to India was an obvious choice. Prof. Parvez Ahmed completed his B.Sc. in 1971, M.Sc. in 1973 and Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science in 1974 all from Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh (UP), and soon moved to Canada for a Doctoral Degree in Computer Science from Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec in 1986.
He taught at undergraduate and graduate level in universities in Iraq, Canada, India and Saudi Arabia. In 1999, he was appointed as visiting professor of computer science by the Commonwealth Secretariat, UK.
He was also the founder chairman of the Computer Science Department of Aligarh Muslim University. Apart from this, he has also been a senior software designer at Philips/MICOM, Montreal, Canada; and a visiting scientist at the Centre for Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence, Montreal, Canada.
Prof. Parvez Ahmed was born in village Mahuwara Qalan of Azamgarh. His father was a great Islamic Scholar and Social Reformer. Late Prof. Israr Ahmad (Dept. of Physics, AMU) was his uncle. Prof. Parvez Ahmed was married to Azra Naqvi.
It is with a heavy heart; I convey to you news of the passing away of a renowned and much-loved scholar Prof. Parvez Ahmed, aged 60 years on 09.10.2013 (at about 8 PM) at Fortis Hospital, Noida, U.P. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raaji'oon!
The news of his demise was received with shock and sadness. His untiring efforts to bring justice and eradicate inequality earned him respect and love in the hearts of all of us. He was a true Muslim and strongly felt a positive change could only be brought about in the society through spreading awareness, where individuals were acutely aware of being accountable to Allāh (SWT). The influences that shaped Prof. Parvez Ahmed were many, ranging from the works of his father, uncle and step-father Master Ishtiaque Ahmad, uncle Late Prof. Israr Ahmad and his wife Azra Naqvi.
He authored innumerable books.
I pray Allah SWT bless him in JANNAT-UL-FIRDAUS and Sabar to his wife Azra Naqvi, family and followers on this tough time. Amen! Summa Amen!!
Following was said for people like him.
