Bringing Remote Execution to Repository Rules

Hi all,

I'd like to announce that we have added remote execution capabilities to repository rules. Specifically,

repository_ctx.execute() can now launch a process on a remote machine and get its stdout,stderr and

exit code back. We hope that this will be very useful to auto generate platforms and toolchains for remote

environments. The feature is experimental and can be enabled with --experimental_repo_remote_exec.

It will be part of Bazel 2.0. The commit message has all the details.
