Adding the bazel-contrib mailing list so the rest of the SIG can have visibility. In particular +Yannic Bonenberger knows the most about rules_proto.

We have tried putting $1000USD bug bounties on certain issues, but in practice these are hard to estimate. The expenses we've actually paid (https://opencollective.com/bazel-rules-authors-sig/expenses) have been invoiced hourly, so if you land some of the missing modules in the BCR you can just report your hours spent in the form of an expense filed on that opencollective project. Does that work for you?

Hey, no worries.

I'm interested in rules related to protobuf and gRPC. That includes rules_proto, bazel_skylib, grpc, protobuf.

but i noticed that the bazel skylib is probably the one at the core. I saw that they already moved a bit toward modules, they just dont have have a proper test module.

Hello, I'm sorry for the delay, this went into my personal email which I'm quite behind on.

Which issue are you interested to help out with?

Hi Alex,

I saw that help is wanted on Github for Bazel Central Registry. I'm really interested by helping for protobuf and gRPC, plus I'm motivated by the bounty. How should I start? I'm not sure.

Thank you in advance
Clement Jean

This is fine 😊 Hey Yannic, is there any way I can help with rules_proto to move it to bzlmod?

Hey,

AFAIK, rules_proto itself already supports bzlmod (this was done by the Bazel team a couple of weeks ago IIRC). I think what’s left is to land bzlmod support in protobuf itself. rules_proto_grpc might also be a good target once protobuf supports bzlmod.

Thanks,
Yannic

Hi again Clement, still interested to help with that? I filed https://github.com/bazelbuild/bazel-central-registry/issues/320 to track it.
