Love the idea...It would be a plus in selling ones home..and property values in general.. I live on Shoals Drive and have a county water hydrant about 100 to 150 feet away on Bayfield  and would love to get hooked to it. I do spend a bit each year having my water tested 2 or 3 times yearly at envirolabs.  It would be nice  to take some of the worry away as to whats floating in and around our "well" water. I would keep the well that I have for everything except drinking such as laundry, toilets and irrigation. It could also be considered a good selling and conservation point in the '"Green"  building and living movement taking place in our country. Every little bit helps and sometimes it takes alittle to save a little. Another plus for those who live near a fire hydrant is the substantial savings in their yearly homeowners fire insurance rates. I would love more info. from Joe, pls. e-mail me back or pjsm...@ec.rr.com

Several points I'd like to make:
-I agree with the property vavlues going up, although not to the
extent that I'd vote for public water
-I disagree that you can sleep better knowing you're attached to
public water versus well water. It's the same water, if there's a
problem in the aquifer, it'll be in the papers as a contaminated
public water system...you can have your water tested then.
-I'm not sure it'll be very easy to do as you say, "keep the well for
everything but drinking." That would require extensive plumbing
changes in your house.
-I'd like to hear more on this idea of it being a "green" building
movement. I would encourage you to be a part of that, but I don't
make the connection of how being hooked to public water would
facilitate it. If you want to conserve, conserve...you don't need to
switch water sources to do that.
-I agree that have a hydrant nearby is a plus for fire insurance
purposes.
