This download updates the Digital Wave Player software bundled with Olympus VN-*PC series digital voice recorders from version 2.1.1 to 2.1.4. It enables Digital Wave Player versions 2.0 and later to operate on computers running 32-bit editions on the Windows Vista and earlier and 64 bit up to Windows 7 operating systems, including those that use AMD Turion or Intel Core2 Duo processors. It also resolves the issue of sorting audio files by date on the VN-2100PC and VN-3100PC digital voice recorders. This download contains only an update program. The full application must be installed prior to running the update.
This driver will enable the VN-120PC, VN-240PC, VN-480PC, VN-960PC, VN-2100PC, VN-3100PC, VN-3200PC and VN-4100PC digital audio recorders to operate with 64-bit editions of the Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. Before installing the driver, Digital Wave Player 2.1.4 or later must be installed on the computer. (Compressed .zip file 1.73MB) (09/2009). For installation instructions, please check the readme file.
"odvr is a user-space driver for Olympus digital voice recorders that do notsupport USB Mass Storage. Not all formats are directly supported(sandec/PULCOD), and functionality is limited, but basic download and listingcapabilities are implemented."
(These files are all included in the olympus_digital_wave_player_for_windows.zip download above.)
This article applies to the VN-120PC, VN-240PC, VN-480PC, VN-960PC, VN-2100PC, VN-3100PC, VN-3200PC and VN-4100PC digital audio recorders being used on 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Location: Phoenix, AZ USAI have an Olympus Voice Recorder that the files were accidentally deleted from. This Voice Recorder just has the earpiece jack rather than a data port so recovering the deleted files via the port was not an option. We removed the eMMC chip and have downloaded the data, however as this VR uses proprietary codecs and we cannot play the files. Anyone had experience/success with these files before?

Location: Phoenix, AZ USAThanks for the input everyone. Arkvia was right, the Olympus software is just a medium to download files from the Voice Recorder, organize and play them. It cannot play the raw files. Here is the 'official' response from Olympus:-
Unfortunately, it is not possible to playback this type of file out side the recorder, as this uses a proprietary audio codex only available for playback in this type or recorder. We have gotten this type of request in the past, however, Olympus Tokyo has made it quite clear that this is not possible, as there is no application or software available for the PC that can covert or playback these files. The only possible way to playback these files would be to buy another working VN-7200 recorder, and duplicate or transfer the files from one memory chip to the working chip on the good recorder. After that is achieved, the files can then be playback and copied over using another recorder or audio recording software, and the earphone out jack.
I have had a PM also with an offer of help which is great. Possibly the best option in this case (as the files are only deleted) is to try and find out how the files are flagged, mark them as live files and put the chip back on the reader.

Don't give up hope !
Over the years I've had a couple of Olympus digital recorders & they both have given me the two error messages. Either 'err' or 'chk'. Sometimes the recorders will give you one message, then the other, or will simply give you one message either on constant display or blinking. I believe you can 'reset' any of the Olympus digital recorders by a combination of holding down two of the front keys. I sat for a half an hour & then suddenly one of the combinations worked. You can try the 'stop' key & the 'erase' key or the 'stop' key & the '-' (slash) key or any other two keys on the front. I have no guarantees that all your data will or will not be erased ! When I got the blinking 'chk' message on 11-4-08, I believe I pushed & held both the 'stop' & the '-' keys. Try ALL combinations of all the keys if those don't work. Don't give up !
