AMC 10/12 Contest Preparation Class
Mr. Zou began to teach AMC 10/12 and AIME classes at Springlight last November. The outstanding exam results of his students lead to a good reputation for him among both parents and students. Most of his students qualified for AIME. A ninth grade student who took his first AMC class with Mr. Zou qualified USA(J)MO as well. One student in Mr. Zou’s class was invited by MOSP, the US national math camp for the top fifty students taking the USAMO.
Mr. Zou has offered AMC/AIME classes in bay area for over four years. His classes maintained a high qualification rate in the exams of AIME, USAJMO, and USAMO. Students all over the Bay Area came to Mr. Zou’s class, including students from Lynbrook, Gunn, Harker, Mission San Jose, PALY, and more.
Compared to other instructors, what is the distinct feature of Mr. Zou’s AMC class? First of all, Mr. Zou spent his high school, college, and PhD life in US so he speaks fluent English with no problem. Second, and the most important, Mr. Zou teaches math in his special way based on his strong Math background:
There is no excess practice: In China, math training highly relies on heavy exercises. Though it is possible to gain international awards in this way, students will more likely become dazed in exams by the problems they have never seen before. In the US, it is impossible for students to do mass exercises after school. However, adequate exercises are necessary. Mr. Zou gives quizes and assigns homework every class time to ensure sufficient training.
Motivating students: Mr. Zou pays attention to the way students think and solve math problems, since students have their own characteristics and talents. Mr. Zou’s method motivates the interests of students and teaches how to think in order to efficiently solve a problem. Students will gain creative problem solving ability in Mr. Zou’s class; regardless of any type of problem.
邹老师去年11月开始在春晖教育执教AMC 10/12，他的学生成绩斐然,得到了家长和同学们100%的称赞。不仅有9年级的学生一年内达到了USA(J)MO的水平，不少学生达到AIME。有一位学生被邀请进入MOSP，全美前50名的奥林匹克数学竞赛训练营。
邹老师在湾区公开教授AMC / AIME 已经四年了。他的学生中AIME qualifier，USAJMO 和USAMO qualifier 的比例很高，可以说是硕果累累。学生们来自Lynbrook, Gunn, Harker, Paly 等高中，遍布旧金山南湾，东湾和北湾等。
邹老师教AMC，和其他老师相比，他的特色是什么呢？在美国上了两年高中，大学和博士的邹老师，除了英文流利没有口音外，最主要的是他厚实的数学功底加上他卓有成效的教学方法。
第一， 反对题海战术。 在中国，准备数学竞赛过于依赖大量做题，这样，虽然也能拿到国际大奖，但在比赛中如果遇到从来没有见过的题型就可能会不知所措。而且以美国这里业余准备竞赛的情况来看，让学生陷于题海中也不现实。但是必要的练习是不可缺少的，因此邹老师会留作业，收作业， 每次上课都有小测验。
第二， 激发学习热情。邹老师的教学看重的是解题思路，教会学生思考问题和解决问题 的方法。虽然每个学生的本身素质和天分不同，他的教学目的就是激发学生对数学的热情，掌握数学思维的方法，让学生能够面对任何题型都有创造性的解题的能力。
有了AMC，AIME，USAMO的成绩，一定会给大学申请增添光彩！

The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) consist of a series of increasingly difficult tests for gr 6-12. Students who have passed AMC 10 or AMC 12 are invited to take AIME. An AIME qualifier is more impressive than an 800 on a SAT Math. There were some advanced students began to take AMC once or twice each year since their 7th grade. They got big improvement each year & successfully became an AIME qualifier within 2 to 5 years. Good AMC scores will enhance admission opportunities for students to elite colleges. Its mission is to help students increase interest in math and to develop critical thinking & problem-solving skills in Math.
Reference book: Art of Problem Solving, Volume I for AMC 10; Volume II is for AMC 12 and AIME.
Who can attend AMC 10/12 Contest Preparation:
for the students:
(1) who have either passed or got good score on the AMC 8 ;
(2) Gr 6-10/12 who want to improve math;
(3) who want to take SAT, AMC & other contests.
