What do colleges look for in applicants for biology or pre-med majors?

Which classes at school and at SpringLight are a good fit for you?

How can students best prepare for high school biology classes, AP exam and biology contests like the USABO?

How can biology and biology research help students get opportunities in computer science, data science, science, engineering, math and more?

At our free seminar, Mrs. Webster, our biology teacher, will be answering these questions and describing our biology program.

We are very proud of SpringLight’s biology program. Mrs. Webster has helped hundreds of students achieve a wide range of goals over the past 10 years:

  • Students who attended classes just to improve their GPA become excited and inspired by biology

  • Students who need help with school classes get a depth of understanding that helps them ace tests

  • Most of our students get 5’s on the AP exam, even freshman and students who are self-studying

  • Students who enjoy contests get the tools to do well—every year, we’ve had students become USABO finalists (top 20 in the nation!), and many of our students, including middle schoolers, make USABO semifinalist.

  • Students interested in research, lab work, and internships are better prepared. Our students win science fair contests and make meaningful contributions to research, in high school and beyond.

SpringLight Education consistently sees outstanding results in both the USABO and AP Biology. Each year, about 30% of Mrs. Webster’s students become USABO Semifinalists or Finalists—even those taking the course for the first time in 9th grade.

Our students regularly advance to the top ranks of the competition, with Finalists placing among the top 20 students in the nation nearly every year. In recent years, we’ve had multiple Finalists, including two in 2024, four in 2023, and five in 2021. This year (2025), one of our students has again achieved Finalist status. In addition to their USABO success, most of our students also score a 5 on the AP Biology exam, reflecting the program’s academic strength and depth.
