You can use autohotkey - it will override the default hotkeys in Windows7 - maybe it will work in windows 8.  Just put a script in startup that defines the win+q hotkey, and tell it to do something else, like send another hotkey or run some command.

Type SETUP. Click the Options tab. Choose a new hotkey. I've been using ALT+Q on Win8 for about a year now.

Hi Eric … just curious … would you happen to know what other shortcut keys
Win8 has ripped off … it seems that Win8 has also stolen WinKey+J (was Jot) …

is there a list of ALL Win8 shortcut keys somewhere?

Q5: Can I change the systemwide hotkey for JOT from Win+J?
A:
Yes, you can change the hotkey if you’d like.

  1> Close SlickRun
  2> Click START > RUN > and type  notepad  "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Slickrun\slickrun.ini" on Vista or later.
  3> Scroll down to the [Jot] section
  4> Edit “BringUpJotKey” to be the ASCII value of the desired letter
  5> Edit “BringUpJotModifier” if desired.  You can change the Modifier to something other than 8 (E.g. ALT = 1, CONTROL = 2, CTRL+ALT = 3, WINKEY=8)

while we are on the topic, I just upgraded to 8.1 and it seems that Win+J is available again.

However, now Win+Q and Win+S are gone (I had been using Win+S since switching to Windows 8), so I am now planning on switching to Win+A for SlickRun.

Hi, a question.
When will we see a new update?, I check SlickRun site almost daily to
see if there is a new release. :) It's so awesome SlickRun, and it's not
been updated long ago.

I've been using the following for many months on Win8 with no collisions with other software shortcut keys.

I have Slickrun bound to CTRL+Q
[General]
BringUpKey=81
BringUpModifier=2

I have Jot bound to ALT+Q
[Jot]
BringUpJotKey=81
BringUpJotModifier=1

I made mention of Slickrun in a recent blog post as one of my favorite power toys!  There you can grab my ini file if you like.
