Subject: [savelandlines] FCC comments due Monday, June 15

The next deadline we are facing is a critical one, comments to the FCC
opposing the disconnections are due this coming Monday, June 15th.
(There are two other related dockets which are not due until June 22,
that you can also include in your submission now as well.)

1. You can submit an express comment:
https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/express OR upload a PDF of your
    comments: https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/standard
2. Include proceedings: 26-120, 26-121, 26-123, 26-125 (yes, all four!)
3. In your comments, make sure to address why "alternatives" are not
reliable or are not accessible/functional for you. Be specific and
provide reasons - and if you have anecdotes about "alternatives"
failing or being unreliable that is even better. Some talking points
include: extended power outages, unreliable cellular service due to
terrain, wildfires, accessibility, Internet outages, nationwide
    cellular outages, etc.
    1. You can read AT&T's application here:
        https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/document/1052026865813/1
    2.  From the FCC's own language "The FCC will normally authorize
this proposed discontinuance of service (or reduction or
impairment) unless it is shown that customers would be unable to
receive service or a reasonable substitute from another carrier
or that the public convenience and necessity is otherwise
adversely affected... Comments should include specific
information about the impact of this proposed discontinuance (or
reduction or impairment) upon you or your company, including any
inability to acquire reasonable substitute service."

All of us here need to submit comments by June 15, but just as
importantly, need to encourage all our friends, family members,
neighbors, community members, etc. to submit comments as well. However
and to whomever you can get the word out, please do. There are a very
small number of comments on the docket currently (under 30) and we need
hundreds, ideally thousands, of comments, within a matter of days. So if
you have time to go door to door, call people personally and get them to
submit comments, set up a table in your community to raise awareness, or
are able to post in other places, please do!

This is a template I sent out to someone earlier, not to copy/paste
verbatim, but feel free to modify / use as a starting point if you are
not sure what to include in your comments:

Please deny AT&T's petitions to discontinue service and for preemption.
Landlines are critical lifelines for many in California. Cellular
coverage and broadband is not actually available and reliable everywhere
that AT&T claims it is, especially due to California's hilly and
mountainous terrain. Additionally, due to California's frequent power
safety shutoffs and multi-day power outages, the limited standby power
of "AP-A" (24 hours at most) is woefully inadequate. Extended power
outages often last several days. Wired landline access is imperative to
be able to communicate in disasters such as earthquakes and wildfires,
and to be able to reach 911 when most needed. AT&T made profits over $23
billion last year - it does not need to shut down a vital safety net for
millions of Californians to deploy IP technologies, only to boost
profits even further. There will be much needless death and injury if
these applications are granted and AT&T is allowed to dismantle critical
communications infrastructure that is often the only reliable way to
call for help - landlines are lifelines.
