On Wednesday, AT&T filed a lawsuit against the state of California for their “Carrier of Last Resort” rules that protect our right to basic telephone service.

Then, many landline customers in CA started receiving termination notices, stating that all service would be discontinued in June 2027.

Even if you do not personally use a landline, having landlines available in a community provides an additional layer of communications in case of an emergency. The loss of the landline network is a safety issue for all of us.

AT&T is insisting that people can use cell phones or "VOIP” instead (neither of which work in prolonged power outages and sometimes not at all!).  We know that many people are physically not able to use wireless devices including due to past microwave injuries. We must stand up for those who would be literally cut off under AT&T’s plans. It could be any of us.

Take a moment to learn more about these recent developments, spread the word and *take action*. Now is the time to raise our voices in support of copper!

Check out this page that was put together by “Phreaknet” — an advocate for landlines and other sensible technology, with info and links on the telephone crisis—  and how to take action to defend landlines— please share widely:

If you are interested in helping organize a mass demonstration in SF in June, essential to getting media coverage and putting pressure on the CPUC, we are working with Save Landlines! and others to organize against this serious threat.

We will not give up our landlines without a fight!
