THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and a dilemma that’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family, a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

The Addams Family Musical - CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Tri-Valley Theatre Company is committed to equitable casting and participation for artists of all races, ethnicities, religions, ages, sexes, national origins, sexual orientations, gender identities/expressions, , disabilities, genetic information, or neurodiversity. If you need an accommodation to audition or participate, please contact us at Auditio...@gmail.com. Roles with specified ethnicity will be noted in the character description.

Note: Some roles may be double-cast with understudies. In some cases, understudies may be scheduled for a guaranteed performance. Understudies will receive rehearsal time to ensure they are prepared to step into the role(s).

Gomez Addams - A charismatic, passionate, and comical family man of Spanish descent. Gomez is a devoted husband and father who revels in all things macabre. His greatest challenge is keeping Wednesday’s secret engagement hidden from Morticia. Requires warmth, charm, and impeccable comedic timing. Must be comfortable with physical comedy and dancing the tango.

Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor (Bb2–G4)

Morticia Addams - The regal, alluring, and sharp-witted matriarch of the Addams clan. She maintains a cool, collected exterior, but beneath her poise lies passion and fire. Morticia upholds the family’s dark traditions and is the anchor around whom the household revolves. A dry, understated sense of humor is essential.

Vocal Range: Alto/Mezzo-Soprano (G3–Bb5)

Wednesday Addams - The darkly comedic daughter of Gomez and Morticia, caught between her macabre upbringing and her love for Lucas Beineke, a “normal” boy. Wry, sarcastic, and fearless, yet experiencing vulnerability for the first time. Strong belt required, with rock/pop edge.

Vocal Range: Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano with belt (A3–E5)

Uncle Fester - The sweet, exuberant, and oddball narrator of the show. Childlike in his enthusiasm and utterly devoted to the Addams spirit. He is a dreamer, hopelessly in love with the moon, and brings heart and whimsy to the story. Great physical comedian.

Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone (C3–G4; optional high C5)

Pugsley Addams - Wednesday’s mischievous younger brother who takes great delight in being tortured by her. He is energetic, funny, and desperate to keep his sister from growing up and leaving him behind.

Vocal Range: Tenor (A3–F5)

Grandma - A wildly eccentric, fun-loving, and unpredictable 102-year-old. She dabbles in potions, herbs, and spells, and serves as a confidante to Pugsley. Earthy, quirky, and blunt with strong comedic instincts.

Vocal Range: Character voice, Soprano/Mezzo (G4–F5)

Lurch - The family’s towering, gloomy butler. He moves with incredible slowness and speaks mostly in moans and groans, but surprises everyone with his deep, resonant singing voice at the end. Physical presence and deadpan comedy are key.

Vocal Range: Bass (Eb2–E4)

Lucas Beineke - A smart, earnest young man who has fallen in love with Wednesday. Though from a “normal” Midwestern family, Lucas is open-minded and ready to embrace the Addams’ world if it means winning Wednesday’s heart. Sincere, romantic, and likable.

Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone (C3–C5)

Mal Beineke - Lucas’s conservative, judgmental father. Once a free-spirited youth, he has grown rigid and cynical. The Addamses push him to loosen up and rediscover his wild side. Requires strong comic chops.

Vocal Range: Baritone (C3–A4)

Alice Beineke - Lucas’s sunny, devoted mother. She often speaks in rhyme and appears cheerful, but years of repressing her feelings boil over in surprising ways. A comedic powerhouse with strong vocal ability and a belt.

Vocal Range: Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano (Ab3–G#5)

The Ancestors - The ghostly remains of Addamses past, summoned from the family crypt. They serve as the ensemble, providing backup vocals, dance, and commentary throughout the show. The Ancestors represent a variety of eras, personalities, and comic types.

Vocal Range: All ranges
