Summary
The Box Office Manager oversees ticketing, group sales, and concessions operations, and supports front-of-house sales systems for BATS Improv. This role is responsible for creating a welcoming, efficient, and accessible patron experience while maintaining accurate financial records, supporting staff and volunteer training, and ensuring reliable systems for ticket sales, concessions sales, and reporting.
The Box Office Manager contributes to audience engagement and earned revenue through in-person and online ticketing channels, as well as on-site concessions. This position works collaboratively with marketing, programming, facilities, and front-of-house teams to support smooth operations and a positive experience for patrons, staff, artists, and volunteers.

Classification: Hourly, non-exempt
Hours per wk: Approximately 10-15 hours per week, with some evening and weekend availability required Compensation: $30/hr
Key Responsibilities
Box Office Operations & Customer Service ● Manage day-to-day box office operations for performances and special events ● Provide excellent customer service across in-person, phone, and email interactions ● Resolve patron concerns, reservation issues, and ticketing questions with professionalism and care ● Maintain a welcoming front-of-house environment that reflects BATS Improv’s mission and values.
Ticket Sales & Box Office Support ● Oversee online ticket sales platforms, ensuring events are accurately built, priced, and published ● Coordinate with marketing and programming teams to align event listings and promotions. ● Maintain data integrity within the ticketing system, including patron records, comp tracking, discount tracking, and reporting
Training & Staff Supervision
Documentation & Systems Management ● Create, maintain, and update box office procedures, policies, and reference guides. ● Ensure compliance with organizational policies related to cash handling, data privacy, accessibility, and customer service. ● Maintain accurate records of sales, comps, discounts, and attendance. ● Generate weekly reports on ticket sales, revenue, and attendance trends.
Inventory & Supply Management ● Order and maintain box office, front-of-house, and concessions supplies. ● Track inventory levels and ensure readiness for performances and events. ● Coordinate with facilities regarding front-of-house needs and supply storage. Group Sales ● Develop and implement group sales strategies to increase revenue and attendance ● Cultivate relationships with local organizations, tourism bureaus, affinity groups, schools, and businesses to drive group bookings ● Provide exceptional customer service to all guests and group leaders ● Resolve ticketing issues and handle customer inquiries promptly and professionally
Qualifications ● 2–4 years of experience in box office operations, customer service, arts administration, or a related field ● Experience with ticketing platforms such as Eventbrite or similar systems ● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail ● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills ● Ability to train, support, and supervise staff or cross-functional event teams in a collaborative environment ● Comfort with basic financial tracking and reporting ● Commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and respectful patron service ● Experience in a nonprofit or performing arts environment preferred
Physical Requirements ● Ability to remain in a stationary position, sitting or standing, for extended periods during box office shifts and performances ● Ability to move about the facility to access box office areas, lobby spaces, concessions areas, and storage locations ● Ability to operate standard office and point-of-sale equipment, including computers, tablets, and printers ● Ability to communicate effectively with patrons, staff, and volunteers in person and via phone or electronic communication ● Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 25 pounds, such as supply boxes or concessions inventory ● Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including typing, data entry, and handling transactions ● Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Required Trainings ● Complete all required onboarding and safety training before working independently ● Complete and maintain any liquor service certification or training required by law and organizational policy ● Complete and maintain any food-handler training or certification required by law and organizational policy ● Attend periodic refresher training and any additional training required by BATS Improv.
