Hi Everyone,

I recently discovered an acting/modeling teaching school named John Robert Powers.  It seems interesting, but it also sounds like a scam.  Some minimal searching somewhat confirms the latter view.  I'm wondering if there are any actors familiar with this company that have some inside knowledge on this matter.  Any reviews/opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Artem,

We got taken for about $6000.00 with JRP in San Jose. The classes
were useless, according to my then 9-yo daughter. The franchisee who
owned it went belly up and none of our money was refunded and JRP
corporate did not allow us to finish the contract at another
location. I would NEVER, EVER give these people money. There are
many good acting classes for kids in the Bay area...not sure where you
are located. Just For Actors, kids division in Campbell is good.
Children's Musical THeater of San Jose is good. Peninsula Youth
Theater in Mountain View? is good. Best of luck, but don't give JRP
any money!!!

Sincerely,

Mitzi Nelson

Most actors have encountered JRP who as a general rule, is not very
well thought of in the acting community. They are a school that is
vastly overpriced and often misrepresents itself as "talent agency"
claiming that TV shows star former JRP students, when those actors,
were in fact, never associated with JRP.

IMO you are better off taking classes from locally recognized teachers/
coaches [check out listings on TBA] or junior college than spending
$1000's at JRP
