AUDITIONS!

San Leandro Players is excited to announce auditions for our Summer 2026 production of "The Unexpected Guest" by Agatha Christie; directed by Miranda Bumstead.

 

In was a dark and stormy night in Wales.  When his car goes off the road, a man enters a nearby country house to get some help.  Inside he finds a murdered body in a chair, a person standing in the corner with a gun, and lots of questions.  Full of unexpected twists and surprising characters bent on revenge, this play explores people willing to rewrite their histories and repurpose their guilt.  This unique Christie mystery presents red herrings and clues aplenty where everyone has much more going on beneath the surface.

Non-AEA, no pay; all ethnicities and ages encouraged.  

 

Where:

At the San Leandro Museum/Auditorium 320 West Estudillo Ave, San Leandro (next to the historic Casa Peralta and 2 blocks east of the San Leandro BART Station).

 

Rehearsals:

From June 1 thru July 16 (Monday thru Thursday 7-9 pm), plus July 17 (dress rehearsal).

 

Performances:

July 18 thru August 16; Saturdays at 8pm; Sundays at 2pm PLUS Fridays at 8pm August 7 and August 14.

 

Characters (ages suggested):

 

Laura Warwick:  (30-45)  Discovered with a gun in her hand.  Fragile and distraught, grapples with her abusive marriage and circumstances surrounding her husband's death.  Her motivations and truth about her actions are central to the plot.

 

Michael Starkwedder:  (30-45)  The unexpected guest.  A complex character as both a potential hero and manipulator.  Charismatic and mysterious.

 

Miss Bennett:  (50+)  Loyal and dedicated housekeeper.  Fiercely protective of Laura and harbors her own secrets.

 

Jan Warwick: (20-30) Richard's younger brother.  Nervous and anxious; often overshadowed by his brother's success.

 

Mrs. Warwick: (60+)  PRECAST)  Richard's mother.  Grieving and devastated by her son's death.

 

Henry Angell:  (50+)  Richard's business partner.  Shrewd and ambitious with a history of conflicts with Richard.

 

Sergeant Cadwallader:  (40+)  Diligent and determined to uncover the truth.

 

Inspector Thomas:  (40+)  Experienced and astute.

 

Julian Farrar:  (35-45)  Lawyer representing Laura.  Intelligent and cunning, working diligently to protect his client's interests.
