www.adc.org | July 6, 2018 - The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) condemns the ongoing occupation of Palestine by the apartheid regime of Israel. The violent razing of the predominantly Bedouin community Khan al-Ahmar blatantly violates
international law, is appalling, and shocks the conscience. ADC stand’s against Israel’s actions and demands it be held accountable for its continued illegal and inhumane activities.
ADC urges United States officials to echo their international counterparts in the European Union and United Nations to decry the forced demolitions of Palestinian homes, schools, mosques and churches, along with the
violence against those peacefully resisting the destruction of their community. Israel’s violations of international law are abetted by the U.S.’s
carte blanc support for Israel. It is shameful that the longstanding foreign policy of the U.S. effectively gives Israel legal impunity, undermining the international rule of law.
The Bedouin Jahalin community was forced to settle in Khan al-Ahmar in the 1950's after being forced from their ancestral lands in the area of Tel Arad during the Palestinian Dispossession, also known as the Nakba. During the Nakba, hundreds of Palestinian
villages were sacked, homes were destroyed, and landmines planted in the rubble of the villages to deter families from returning to reclaim their belongings. The Nakba resulted in the forced expulsion of more than 750,000 people from their homes. These vile
acts of ethnic cleansing continue to this day as Israel now claims that the Jahalin community’s presence in Khan al-Ahmar is “illegal.” Israeli Occupation Forces have now positioned themselves to destroy Khan al-Ahmar in whole and displace its occupants.
ADC stands firmly against the actions of Israel and calls on the international community to denounce its attempt to destroy Khan al-Ahmar and end the continued occupation of Palestine. ADC will continue to support Palestinian’s facing persecution, violence,
forced displacement, and more at the hands of the apartheid Israeli regime.
