Monterey’s Sea Otter Classic prides itself on being the world’s largest cycling expo. But did you know that they host Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer, Elbit Systems?
Elbit Systems is the parent company of Everysight, a manufacturer of high-tech cycling goggles. Elbit, Israel’s largest weapons company, provides technology for surveillance drones and F-16 fighter jets that terrorize Palestinians
in Gaza and provides surveillance for the apartheid wall that snakes through the West Bank. Elbit is also cashing in on contracts with U.S. Customs and Border Protection for drones and surveillance towers to further militarize the U.S-Mexico border.
Elbit has brought its surveillance and war-making technologies to the cycling community in the form of the
Everysight Raptor, “augmented reality” glasses built with the same technology that Elbit provides for fighter jets. Everysight is entirely owned by Elbit Systems and will be demonstrating their Everysight
Raptor glasses at the Sea Otter Classic from April 11-14.
This year’s Sea Otter Classic cycling festival is April 11-14 in Monterey. In anticipation that Sea Otter won’t cancel Everysight/Elbit,
the
CODEPINK team is planning to be there on Saturday, April 13 to protest. We will let attendees, event organizers, and cycling enthusiasts know that Sea Otter is promoting a company complicit in war crimes.
By hosting Everysight, the Sea Otter Classic is giving a stamp of approval to border militarization and Israeli war crimes. Cycling events like the Sea Otter Classic should celebrate the human spirit, but from Palestine to Mexico,
Elbit Systems/Everysight is responsible for death and repression. Everysight claims that the Raptor allows cyclists to "ride like a fighter pilot."- they leave out the part about bombing Palestinians and stealing their land.
If you are part of a local organization, please let us know if your group would like to endorse the action by
filling
out this form. If you plan to come and would like to help with organizing, contact
urs...@codepink.org. Help is needed in the lead up to the action as well as
on the day of the event with things like posting flyers, photography, media outreach, social media, and more!
Hope you can you join us on Saturday,
April 13 to take action to boycott Everysight and Elbit Systems in Monterey!
