Certified Ed Levin hike and hucker here - has rewarded me very well
several times.

Fingers crossed that 2010 will bring me a nice new P4 rating so I can
join you afternoon huckers at Mission one day (watch out Clemens!).
In the mean time I'm up for w/end Ed Levin escapades - I've found that
even a 10 minute sledder feels good after an hour and 20 on the trail
and going up again in a car afterwards feels even better too.

For mountain vol-biv trips - is one strategy to team with a tandem
pilot and have them carry extra gear instead of a passenger? Or is
dead weight too dangerous on landing?

Waddy,

Having a tandem wing carry extra gear is an interesting idea. The
tandem wing is quite large though and fitting into a small bag would
be difficult. I think one concept for me would be since the harness
and reserve is lighter and my regular wing is used it gives me a
little more capacity to carry gear. I am heavy on my wing though and
have not campers with it.

On a side note I have hiked mission with tandem with non-pilots and
pilots. Together the gear does weight less. I've carried the whole
thing (55lbs) and I've split the gear.

how much time until your P4?

Stephen
