Get off yer bum and join the hike-n-huck!

I'll be in the parking lot today (thurs 5/19) about 4:30p and plan to
start up the mountain no later than 4:45p.

The forecast looks good!

what do you think about the wind forecast? For the late afternoon it
is looking a litle strong to me:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=37.509998183212744&lon=-121.8878173828125&site=mtr&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=graphical

However, I've never flown late afternoon before - does the noaa site
tend to overestimate a bit?

My 2 cents... It usually backs off in the evening, and I'm not afraid to hike down if needed.  I think it's worth a shot today.

FWIW:

Wunderground forecasts WNW @ 9mph

and the weather.gov site can vary if you change the spot forecast just a little closer to the bay:
NW @ 8-14mph (no gust)

There's always a risk that it's a hike-n-hike vs hike-n-huck!  I'm not about to fly if it's stupid windy... but I'll take a look.

Hope to see ya there

I'm going up. Will be there at 12:30 to hike (with my massively heavy
comp flying kit). Anyone interested in joining?

Wish I could have joined you guys. Sadly, have dinner plans so can't make it, but will be flying today at 12:30pm in case anyone wants a double fly today

Just left mission and it's strong NW but flyable.

Hike&Huckers
How was flying today?

I hiked back up Mt Vaca after sinking 1k below launch.  While watching Fifield climb to 7.5k & XC 25km landing at Dixon.  Love that hiking!

We had a showing of 5 pilots including 2 tandems. I believe there were also several people who flew earlier in the day. Great hiking weather. Winds were fairly strong from the NW when we set out but dropped significantly and were beginning to switch West when I launched at 6. Kevin and I both had relatively short but pleasant flights. Bruce and one of the tandem wings were still in the air when I left at around 6:30

Fun evening all in all.

What's the situation with Mt. Vaca. - is this a new site? I haven't heard about it before.

Cheers,
Gabriel
