I know there was a discussion about tree self rescue awhile back
(outside this group). I was wondering if someone could post the cliff
notes version (links where to buy, etc.).

Thanks in advance,
Bob

I carry one that is made from items culled from my climbing gear (webbing,
biners) and 50 meters of perlon cord with an appropriately sized rappelling
device. www.towmeup.com has a great PDF of kit contents and instructions
http://towmeup.com/Tree%20Rescue%20kit%20Instructions%20RevA%20...pdf.
Their kit is very close to what I carry. Make sure you have an
appropriately sized rappelling device for the small cord -
I don't carry the kit all the time since it weighs around 4 lbs, but when
over tiger country & flying in comps, it's in the harness since self-rescue
is a necessary option. Make sure you practice with the kit while hanging in
your harness - it's much harder and complicated than it seems.

I have the same tree rescue kit. If you're flying XC, it's one of those must haves in your harness.

Just got back from tiger country myself, no self rescues required.  However I did comple a hike and huck there, 1600' up and a nice 40 min thermalling flight which wasn't as stella as forecast but still worth it.

Seems like a pretty cheap insurance program...  4 lbs isn't toooo bad, but it sorta negates the advantage of buying a 3.8kg Ozone Swift!  Vrrrrt!

Thanks for all the feedback.
