Hi! I never had Hekasi .  I suppose I was in college when that subject was introduced to the elementary and highschool programs.  I'm a child of the 80's--when DECS was pushing for English as the medium of instruction so most of my subjects were taught in English and we were fined if we spoke Filipino outside of Filipino class (due to a well-meaning but rather misguided directive).  We used English textbooks (all by Zaide) for Philippine History.  We spent more time on world Geography, History and Social Studies than on Philippine studies.

When I heard that there was a new subject called Hekasi (Heograpiya, Kasaysayan at Sibika) I just assumed that they were taught in Filipino and I was happy thinking (hoping) that our school system was back to trying to produce students who were fluent in both Filipino and English.  But I found out that Hekasi and Sibika are taught in English, at least in private schools.  How is it in public schools?

I know we're trying to improve the English of school children, but I think it's also important for kids to be exposed to academic or scholarly Filipino, especially for studying Philippine history, etc.  Right now, because of texting and other things, even the Filipino of kids is deteriorating (dito na me, wr na u?).

By the way, is anyone working on a GMRC module?

Angela :-)

Not only kids. I have friends who write in email that way.

No one is working yet on GMRC. When I was still in elementary, I think
it was called "Values Education"

Hey, glad to hear the latest. Pasensya na I have been busy at work. But I did a write up on Bayanihan Books at Ground Report,  an online news media catering mostly to US and Canada.  At this point from where I am all I can help with is awareness building. I hope that helps even a little bit.  So far when I checked it had 50 views, no too bad eh...  Musta sa lahat sa Pinas. (Musta na u ok lang me) , ha ha, that was fun to read, hi Angela...:)
