Hi everyone,

So I built the quad I was talking about last year, and have been flying it locally. I am now thinking of building an R/C plane. The plane's specs are:
Airframe: Phoenix Model Sonic High-Wing
wingspan: 52.7"
length: 40.9"
wing area: 418.5 sq in
AUW ~4-4.5 lb
I'm using a ~980KV motor with an 11x7 propeller powered by a 3S 3300-4000mAh LiPo battery. I'm also thinking of getting a cheap RTF kit to train on before I fly this.

I'm thinking of flying this plane in Rancho San Antonio, since it's pretty nearby and there is a club there.

So, I have 2 questions:

1: Will this plane be something I can train on, and is my plan workable?
2: Are there people at Rancho who would be willing to help me learn to fly?

Thanks for the help!

As a first plane, you might consider something like a Bixler 2.

Advantages:

- cheap
- easy to fly and launch
- survivable in crashes
- easy to repair

Don't bother with flaps or any mods, it's a perfect trainer
straight out of the box.

Good Luck!

Good call on that- I am thinking of flying a smaller plane before moving up to the Sonic. I think I posted that, but you may have missed it. Do you know what RTF kits would be a good idea to train on, before building the Sonic?

Oh, and will anyone be at Rancho who may be able to give me some tips?

Thanks!

Here's a really nice one:

smooth and easy to control... even after you get some experience,
you'll enjoy coming back. Bliss in a box!
