Hi All,

I've got couple of surplus server power supplies for $10 each. Those would be great for reprap, One gives 39A on the 12v and the other is giving 49A. I've found the information of how to hack one of them, and I am trying to find the information for the other. The power supply is Ablecom SP502-2s and it match supermico servers. Any ideas where I can find the information?

Thank you,

A server power supply outputs a standard power output method.

If the supplies are typical ATX-style connections, then you can build/buy a power supply board that lets you power up the supply (RAMPS can even control the power on these with the right sub-board). If it’s not a standard ATX connection, if you know the model of the server(s) that supermicro sells that would normally use those supplies, then you can just grab the tech sheet of supermicro’s website for the server, and find the power input connection details there. They provide fairly decent specs for that stuff.

You can also go the Printrbot route and short the atx on pins.

Hi Cassandra,

I tried this route and got to the specifications of the server. Couldn't find the pinout there. The connections are not ATX and each server power supply has its own pins configuration. I've found that the RC groups have some threads related to server power supplies, but not for this specific module.

Still searching ... ;-)

Zohar, I see this was posted 2 years+ ago, But..  I just inherited a Lefthand Networks NSM-150, which had the Ablecom SP502-1S, and, Ironically, it transitions from the card edge to a standard ATX-20
inside, before plugging into the main board..  I haven't mapped out all of the pins, but Pin 10 (5th pin from the left-Bottom (facing the edge towards you) is Pwr_On, and connects to the center,
Widest contact (Common-GND).. I haven't mapped out all of the contacts, I'm finding two of the 5 pins furthest tot he right, are an I2C connection, not used by the computer..
I found this out, trying to "hot-wire" the supply, to start the computer, but I may have more tracing out to do.. (front-panel not functioning).
At least, the supply is powering up, and should be easier to trace what voltages go where.. But, Still haven't traced which ones the SDA & SCL (I2C) pins go to. (Not used in the NSM-150).),
but Pin-9 (5th along the top, going from left) is +5Vsb as well..
