original O25 reef setup?

Hello, We're close to sailing our O25 for the first time after doing an extensive refit in preparation for the WA360 race up here in the PNW. 

I was curious about the original reef setup and specifically the metal cam cleat at the front of the boom. Does this system work well? Have people modified it to something else? I have plans to add new reefing lines and use Samson ultra tech which has a higher degree of abrasion resistance for those cleats. 

Just curious what others have done-

Thanks, we finally tested the original setup with new reef lines yesterday. Actually works perfectly. Maybe long term plan could be to lead it after since we a double handing a lot, but works great now. Thx for PM notes of this from several of you.
