Hi All,
Here are the notes I took during the fleet meeting last Sunday. Thanks to all who attended! -JP
Attendance: Shadowfax, Synchronicity(2), Sketch(2), Falkor(2), O'mar, Gavilan(2). Observers: Joe Rockmore (Pro, YRA volunteer, HMBYC),
Topic 1: Midwinters '25-'26
- Encinal Jack Frost won the vote. No specific objections
- Sketch to miss at least first two. Synchronicity will first as well.
- JP confirmed with Brendan McNally projected dates are: 11/1, 12/6, 1/3, 2/7
Topic 2: SF Bay Season '26
- Scoring - days was ok but tie breakers were harsh. Interest in looking at splitting ties with half-points (suggested by DaveG), or using the true average daily score. JP to compute for 2025 and share.
- 2026 Season schedule owner -> Falkor (Zack) volunteered
- 2026 Nationals:
- DaveG: SFYC 1st week of Oct (or possibly 3rd weekend sept? fall 1D - to check)
- Terri: RYC 1st weekend Oct also offered. Does not work for Synchronicity
- JP: BYC can offer flexibility
- StFYC Fall 1-D if they are running it. could also work again.
- (All of the above are repetition from '22-'25)
- Discussed Half Moon Bay YC. Logistics still a hold-up. Fleet would need to back and forth trailers or cruise there and motor back.
- EYC may be an option. Suggest to ask Thad (->not present). Relevant if we have good Jack Frost and Estuary turnout.
- 2026 Schedule:
- Agreement to do least one race to Bonita. DavidS emphasized quality of BWL. Possibility to skip Encinal Regatta (lower turnout in past few years)
- Estuary Extravaganza was popular, and boats want to do it even without counting Encinal Regatta
- BYC Wheeler expected to be 2nd Saturday in April per JP.
- HMB Ocean race was discussed. JP mentioned OYRA ocean safety requirements are a concern. Joe Rockmore suggested some are still waived?
- Falkor intends to do race2alaska against former Shark-on-Bluegrass
- SFYC Elite Fleet good feedback, desire to return and have more of a raft-up at SFYC
- RYC Big Daddy turnout was small. Nobody thought it was systematic. JP noted that it is during a key maintenance time. Steve noted it is still in ski season.
- StFYC spring 2-days discussed as a possibility
- PeterW suggested YRA Great Vallejo, which could serve as second 2-day. That sounds good to several people.
- Round-the-rocks (doublehanded) was discussed favorably.
- General Principles put forth by DaveG: try to sail all parts of the bay, limit to two 2-day regattas, minimize one race days
- Reminder that Three Bridge Fiasco has it's own O25 trophy (red one)
Topic 3: Website
- The bones are there on the new site, and the schedule is there
- Content-wise, moving beyond the Tempesta guide preferred. DaveG has outline/notes of a guide and is interested in publishing it
Topic 4: Class Rules
- Last rules update 2021, driven by Falk M.
- Two rules highlighted to change: 1) Nationals # of crew rules - should be revised to be consistent. 2) Number of sails rule and buying new sails rules lack clarity (DavidS).
- DaveG agreed to take it on
Topic 5: Lat38 Add for '26
- Discussion that it is probably worth as proof of life. Tom N still holds the $. Should cover at least one more year.
Topic 6: Clinic for '26
- Suggestion to do a classroom session on One Design racing principles and tactics. DaveG noted many fundamental errors
- Could be evening with pizza or similar format
