O25 Season update - April 2025

Hello Olson 25ers, this is your regularly scheduled update on the SFBay 2025 Olson 25 Season.

I hope everyone had a blast at yesterday's Wheeler regatta? I know I did! Congrats to John and the Sketch crew for a tidy win. Reminder we are scoring race days, so the scoring table used for this regatta is here: https://www.jibeset.net/show.php?RR=BYC_T001362362&DOC=fh&TYP=html

No drone footage this time apparently the drone went swimming.

Next up is a big one: 5/17 & 5/18 Elite Fleet Regatta @ SFYC - Open for registration and three boats registered so far. RAFT-UP @ SFYC: The Elite Fleet racing area is the Berkeley Circle, but Otto's Garage will be pouring dockside at SFYC after the races Saturday 5/17. If possible please plan to come to the SFYC guest dock and raft-up with the fleet after the race on 5/17! I know several of the Berkley boats are planning to be there.

Great shots. The fleet is looking good!   There is a lot to be learned from these photos. I encourage everyone to  look closely and critically at sail trim, weight placement, heal etc. Looking at the breeze and sunshine, I cannot believe I spent yesterday on shore!

Shout out to Steve, Terry and the Synchronicity crew - solid sailing these first three events to lead the season series. 

As JP mentioned next up is SFYC  Elite fleet on 5/17-18. We are on probation for this event. The minimum fleet size is normally 10 to get a start. I made the case for our growing and enthusiastic fleet to be allowed in with a minimum of 7 boats. More is better!. Let's show them the growing and competitive Olson 25 fleet!  There will be room at the club to leave boats overnight. There will be beer and snacks after each days racing. We will also have Otto's finest on the dock after Saturday racing for the fleet to enjoy. John tells me he has brewed up a special Maibock that I am sure will be tasty.  

Gavilin, Shadowfax and Sketch are already registered- lets fill out that roster. I look forward to seeing everyone at SFYC. If there is anything I can do to help with logistics or answer questions, do not hesitate to call, text or email.

Any idea how the RC will combine  fleet with such different course/times in the results for the City of Berkeley trophy?

Hi Steve,

I do not believe there is a plan to combine o25 division with phrf-c for the CoB trophy. 

The phrf C first race went over 3 hours. So we were back at the club before phrf-c started their second (buoy) race. I don’t think the times even for race 2 would be in anyway comparable.

Pretty much we provided input that we preferred buoys for both races we forwent trophy contention. That is on me - I did not think the CoB (phrf) trophy would matter members of our fleet.
