Tom's Place has 3 shows coming up on consecutive days, Friday, December 26, Saturday th 27th and Sunday the 28th, presented in conjunction with the Oakland Freedom Jazz Society.

This is turning into an annual extravaganza -- we did something like this last year. It seems that lots of friends come to town for the holidays and ask if they can come over to play, which we love.

On Friday, December 26 at 8:00pm, it's

                     The Kevin Murray Trio:

                      Kevin Murray (drums)

                     Josh Allen (tenor sax)

                     Tim Duff (bull fiddle)

Drummer Kevin Murray recently graduated from the New School and is rapidly becoming one of the most important percussionists of his generation. His side men are bay area mainstays Josh Allen on Saxophone and Tim Duff on Double Bass.

On Saturday, December 27 we have

                 Janel Wagner (vox) and friends

Tom Weeks (sax), solo and/or (maybe) with friends

Janel is an Oakland-based singer and guitarist.

Tom Weeks has been off in NY for two years, but is back in the Bay Area this month.

This Saturday evening show came together at the last minute, so we are unsure of some details. We love these performers and always enjoy hearing them. Think of it as a Mystery Tour (not like the Beatles, but like the bus tours of my childhood).

on December 29 it's

                Simon Hanes (baritone guitar) and

                  Nora Stanley (alto sax) with

                       Fred Frith (guitar)

Nora Stanley is an improviser and composer based in Brooklyn. As both a solo artist and a collaborator her music emphasizes openness, connection, and interaction, exploring the vast possibilities of texture, rhythm, and harmony.

Simon Hanes is a California born (John Hanes is his dad), Brooklyn-based composer, performer and arranger. His work revolves around bridging his main influences; soundtrack music from 1960s/70s Italian films, contemporary classical music, and non-idiomatic improvisation.

Fred, I hope you all know. He's one of the world's foremost improvising guitarists and composers, and a frequent visitor to Tom's Place.
