On Friday, September 5 at 8:00pm, Tom's Place presents
                      Thollem -- solo piano
                               and
                            Dymaxion
                     (Pete Schmitt -- bass,
                   Dave Brandt -- percussion,
Bruce Ackley -- sop. sax, Bb clarinet)

Thollem's music is genre-bending, code-switching, omni-idiomatic, and intersectional, expressing the culmination of his life's experiences in dialogue with the universe and fellow human beings. He has spent most of his life performing and collaborating with hundreds of artists and communities throughout N. America and Europe and has released well over 100 albums on 27 different vanguard labels. But on Friday it will be just him and the piano. I love what Thollem does, and can't wait to hear him.

"Terry Riley met [Thollem] at a party at former Kronos cellist Joan Jeanrenaud's house and listened in awe to the pianist's CD on the drive home. 'He's absolutely mesmerizing,' Riley says. 'He's very free. He starts with an idea and you watch him develop it in a way that unfolds like a beautiful flower, organically.'"
-- SF Chronicle

Following up Thollem's solo piano set will be Bruce Ackley's trio Dymaxion, which is primarily focussed on his compositions for improvisors. Bruce is a founding member of the Rova Saxophone Quartet and a virtuoso woodwind player known for his collaborations with numerous experimental musicians. He is joined by fellow virtuosi Pete Schmitt on bass and percussionist Dave Brandt.
