What is EMDR?

I am attempting to arrange for an weekend 3-day EMDR training in Santa
Clara County. It will cost $375/person. Who might be interested? It
would cover EMDR- Part I (21 hours). I can also arrange for a Part II
(21 hrs.) training later if there is enough interest for the same per
person cost. I am gathering a mailing list. Please help spread the
word by forwarding this email to our local colleagues.

If you are a masters level mental health clinician or above, with a
valid license, or if you are licensable and have the approval of a
licensed clinical supervisor, you are qualified to receive EMDR
training. If you are a full time clinician (30 or more hours per
week)
in a non-profit setting, you are eligible to receive training from
HAP.

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. It is a trauma
treatment. I have already been to one treatment and know how to do
it, but this will be a longer one. It is great for PTSD, anxiety,
trauma, etc. Bilateral Stimulation (stimulating both sides of the
brain at once through tapping, eye movement, music- moves back & forth
from one side of body to other) is applied while the person has their
memory. It allows for frozen & traumatic memories to be processed. The
result is that the traumatic memories are no longer generalized to
other situations (Ex. colors or items reminding a person of previous
trauma and setting off a flashback or the person feeling they are not
safe in an environment that is now safe). Traumatic memories also do
not have the strong body reaction or emotion after EMDR. It is not a
talk therapy. The person does not even need to talk about the trauma
verbally for it to be effective. It is an evidence based body
therapy.

Thanks,
