Colleagues,
Some of you competitive robotics folks working in metal may be interested in this:
A neighbor of mine has a friend in Walnut Creek who is looking to donate an Atlas 5 inch swing metal lathe, sold under the Craftsman brand. It includes a heavy-duty workbench, wide drawers, and a protective cover. There are several sets of tool holders and a planing attachment. The basic unit has gears to make threads of many pitches and turns the lead screw and head at many speeds. Also included are several cubic feet of highly machinable aluminum aircraft alloy in many shapes. Also available is a side cabinet to hold metal stock.
The person offering this is looking to share it with a school, especially but not exclusively if it is in an underserved community. I do not know anything about the machine other than what is typed here copied verbatim from a note left for me.
