Hi Maker Educators, I'm supporting a family in Menlo park who wants to put together a custom camp for their 1st grader and preschooler. The 1st grader is twice-exceptional with very strong math skills, but a reluctant reader/writer, so could use gentle support with that. The preschooler is bright, easy-going and excited to learn.
The set up we're thinking of is 2-3 hours with the 1st grader in the mornings consisting of fun tinkering projects, project-based learning (maybe chess, games, other) and gentle support with reading and writing. In the afternoon, the teacher would engage the 1st grader and preschooler with field trips and project-based learning, maybe taking them to museums or nature-based learning.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with gifted/highly sensitive children in this age group, but also fun STEM tinkering/makerspace background and is enthusiastic and can make learning fun. We're looking for someone who is really excited about the idea of designing a summer camp and understands how to differentiate learning for children at these developmental stages.
Compensation: $12,500/month including designing and running this camp (about 25-30 hours/week total)
If you're interested, please reach out to me directly with a little bit of information about your background with gifted/sensitive kids, 1st graders, preschool age, tinkering, other fun STEAM/project-based learning experience and teaching ELA. Thanks so much!
