HackBAC
is a social justice-oriented, design thinking hackathon where students
in grades 8-12 work in teams to identify problems and opportunities,
ideate potential solutions, and present their innovative ideas to a
panel of experts. This is an event dreamed up by Delonte Egwuatu and his
team at the Black Alumni Collective at St. Andrew's Episcopal School (Baltimore, MD) and they have been running HackBAC on the East Coast for a few years.
Nueva is excited
to be the first West Coast host site for HackBAC! You can learn more at the
HackBAC website and the attached flyer.
The dates for HackBAC at Nueva will be March 16 (one virtual meeting in the evening) and March 20-22 (in person at Nueva).
Registration is now open and we would love your help in spreading the word to your students! Note that for safety and supervision purposes, we ask that each school or organization send an adult chaperone to HackBAC with their group of students. We plan to have some parallel programming for chaperones so there will be a professional development component to the event while at the same time honoring that adult chaperones may r want quiet time to work, especially as this event is happening around mid-semester.
We hope you and your students will join us for this event and please reach out to us directly if you have any questions!
Warmly,
Angi & Delonte
